Deck Restoration

We are sometimes called upon to restore a deck that has suffered some damage due to mold and mildew. Pictured here is a 4 year old deck that is almost completely in the shade and has a tendency to stay wet and turn black.

In order to restore a deck like this, we use two wood conditioner products from the Cabot corporation. The process involves two steps. The first is to mix and spray Cabot Wood Brightener on the entire structure and then power spray it off. The second step is the same as the first but we use the Cabot Wood Cleaner product to treat the whole deck. The results are pictured below and are quite dramatic. This process leaves you with a clean wood deck with the pores of the wood ready to take in a deep penetrating stain.

On this deck, we used a line of Cabot stain called Australian Timber Oil.

It contains three oils that penetrate deeply into the wood for a long lasting finish. We do two coats of the stain or apply the timber oil stain in as many coats it takes until the boards cannot soak in any more stain and the water beads up on top of the wood. The color of the deck in these photos is Jarrah Brown.

Take a look at the before and after pictures below.
