In the category of unusual projects, we were hired to replace the columns of this porch on a home in the country just south of Carbondale.
The home sits on a beautiful piece of land. The house was built in the 1950’s after the original old log cabin home was torn down. Next to the house are open fields, a fishing pond, and a big gorgeous wood barn that is more than 120 years old!
We first had to build the new columns in our wood shop. They were made of 1x cedar boards (“one-by’s”). The boards were cut and fitted and painted in the shop. The rails in between the posts are made of iron. Since the new posts were wider than the old ones, we had to have each iron rail section cut down, and then have the pattern re-worked to fit correctly. These iron rail sections were also sand blasted and given a fresh coat of paint. Another fun job completed and another happy customer!
Here is the 120-year-old barn on the property.
