Historical Buildings of Southern Illinois
Johnson County Courthouse

Here at Jack Home Construction we have an interest in old, historical buildings. Today we thought we’d take a look at the Johnson County Courthouse. The courthouse is located in Vienna, IL at the Courthouse Square. It was built somewhere between 1868 and 1871, the records are unclear. It has been in use since its construction, which makes it one of the oldest actively used courthouses in the state, being roughly 150 years old. Architect Niles Llewelly Wickwire designed it in the Italianate style, which you can see in such features as the tall, narrow windows with decorative arches, as well as the decorative brick at each corner of the building (called quoins).
